What can I use Trusted Vault for?

Future messages like birthday wishes or graduation letters (notes with a release date, delivered after your account has been triggered), time capsules with memories to unlock later, sensitive secrets (end-to-end encrypted), emergency access for crisis situations, life documentation for loved ones, and digital inheritance like passwords, documents, and account access. All of it is delivered only when needed.

How does the dead man's switch work?

You set a check-in period (e.g., 45 days). If you don't check in within that period, the system sends reminder emails (at 30, 37, and 40 days). After the full period without a check-in, your encrypted secrets are automatically released to your trusted contacts who can then decrypt them.

Is my data encrypted?

Secrets are encrypted end-to-end using RSA 4096-bit and AES-256-GCM; only you and your assigned beneficiaries can decrypt them. Notes are encrypted at rest. We do not store plaintext secrets.

What happens if I forget to check in?

You'll receive reminder emails before your check-in period expires. If you don't check in, your secrets will be released to your trusted contacts. However, you can always check in to reset the timer and prevent release.

Can I change my trusted contacts?

Yes, you can add, remove, or modify your trusted contacts at any time. You can also reassign which secrets go to which contacts. Changes take effect immediately.

How secure is the platform?

We use industry-standard encryption: RSA 4096-bit for key pairs, AES-256-GCM for data encryption, and PBKDF2 with 600,000 iterations for password security. Your private key is encrypted with your password before storage, and we do not store plaintext data.

What if my beneficiaries aren't tech-savvy?

The platform is designed to be user-friendly. When secrets are released, beneficiaries receive clear instructions via email on how to access their assigned information. Our support team is also available to help if needed.

Acceptance

By accessing or using Trusted Vault ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Use of Service

The Service provides a platform for storing encrypted information and designating trusted contacts to receive that information under specified conditions (e.g. after a period of non-check-in). You must use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these terms.

Account Responsibility

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and recovery key. You are responsible for all activity under your account. You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date. You must not share your account credentials with others.

Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Service to violate any law, infringe others' rights, distribute malware, attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other accounts, or use the Service in any way that could harm, disable, or overburden the Service. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Intellectual Property and Content

We grant you a limited license to use the Service for its intended purpose. Our brand, software, and materials remain our property. You retain ownership of the content you store; by using the Service you grant us the rights necessary to store and transmit it in encrypted form and to perform the service (e.g. release to your designated contacts as configured).

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim all warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or use, arising out of or in connection with the Service. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (or, if no fee was paid, zero).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these terms or any law.

Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms or for other operational or legal reasons. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases. Provisions that by their nature should survive (e.g. disclaimers, limitation of liability) will survive.

Changes

We may modify these Terms of Service from time to time. We will post the updated terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated by email or in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service.

Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which we operate, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction, except where prohibited.
